Whangarei police had perhaps one of their easiest arrests of all time yesterday, and a newspaper one of their easiest scoops.
An alleged battery thief, wearing jandals and a fluorescent yellow top, and fleeing a group of supermarket employees, was spotted running down Robert St by a police officer – right outside the offices of The Northern Advocate.
The officer gave chase, catching up with him a few minutes later, the paper reports.
He was easy to follow due to his hi-vis jacket.
Police gave the man a formal warning and returned the batteries to the store.
