Rodney Hide entered Parliament in 1996, a founding member of the ACT Party, he'd been involved from when it was just an idea.

It’s been a 15 year career that saw him take the party leadership and a ministerial role.

But when caught using the perks himself he was left totally discredited. The party fell down around him and now it seems like he's reached the final act - political oblivion.

Rodney Hide started his political life as the "perk buster", an acolyte of Roger Douglas and Richard Prebble.

His decision to bust open parliamentary perks set him apart.

“The idea that you can fly about the country without regard to what it’s costing or its overall expenditure to me is wrong,” he used to say.

But after taking on the establishment he took on the dance floor, dropping some weight and his partner on Dancing With the Stars.

“I never felt a dork, I learnt that kiwis actually like that someone’s out there giving it a go,” he said after being kicked off the show in 2006.

But dorky is exactly what many of his stunts became, like the canary yellow jacket.

Attention-seeking was the name of the game.

ACT became a cult of personality and all about Rodney.

He left his wife but found new love and lost his way: the self-proclaimed "perk buster" was busted for perks.

Taxpayer money was blown on trips for him and his new girlfriend to London and Hawaii, but the real political crime was his hypocrisy.

His so-called "poor judgement" becaming a habit.

Hide promoted David Garrett - a zero tolerance law and order hardliner.

But both men were hiding Garrett's secret criminal past.

“I obtained the birth certificate of a child, born around the time I was born, but who died in infancy,” Garrett eventually publicly admitted.

That scandal blew open along with the divisions in his party.

Deputy leader Heather Roy called him a bully, then she was marched from her job.

As the ACT Party died away Hide continued to evolve.

There's a new baby called Liberty, named after his political philosophy.

Hide's chased many people out of public office.

Some will see this as karma - as utu.

He's gone, he's appeared in what looks like his final act.

Its very funny how the Green/Labour parties are so active in the forums. They make about twice as many personally insulting comments as they currently poll. They never have anything positive to say and are always looking to tear something down, be it an opposition member, or the country. This is why they are polling so low currently to Nationals gain.

Act has changed its leader and is looking to move forward with the Brash gamble. This may work, it may not, we will see in a few months time. But on the other side the Green leader is absent from the drivers seat, and the Labour leader already has the coffin being sized up for a leadership change after the next election. There is no Green/Labour opposition as such currently, just a small bunch of whingers and one-eyed supporters who follow blindly.

If the Greens and Labour want to be a challenge at this election they need to have the guts to change. They could try a positive campaign - like the 1st in about 30 years! Act has done a change, and the Greens/Labour remain gutless. Even the Maori party has cleaned house. It has hurt the Maori party to clean house, but not cleaning house would hurt worse so it was the only decsion they could really make.

Brash wont be a popular guy. But apart from cheating on his wife he has come out quite clean in reguards of his efforts for NZ. Helen had paintgate, corngate, misuse of the SIS and Police, speeding, a gay marriage, stitching up Dover Samuels and much more which make Brash look a saint! Yet Helen was popular. If your going to throw mud, you better have a clean record.

How many Labour/Green MP's have been arrested and have criminal convictions? How many arrests and criminal convictions does Brash have? Lets have the arrests/convictions of all MP's tabled and see which are truely lying scumbags!

What goes around, comes around. Sweet justice. A person's actions, whether good or bad, will often have consequences for that person. Hide has got his deserved comeuppance for treating people in such an arrogant manner, thinking he knows best all the time, bulldozing his way over the people of Auckland, being a total hypocrite with his abuse of parliamentary perks, and generally being a nasty bully. New Zealand will be better off without the likes of this hugely egotistical "skinhead bovver boy". The sooner he is exited from ACT and Parliament the better. But no doubt happy clappy John Boy Key will have a nice patsy position lined up for him in one of our embassies or SOE's. (The deal probably has already been done!)

Everyone seems to have forgotten that rodney was voted in whereas Brash never was. without Rodney act is gone, do they really think Brash will get them 5%, I think Id rather hope Rodney will be voted back in.

I admired Rodney for his stand on behalf of small business against the IRD. I guess that this journalist has never had to deal with this organisation - but I have noticed a huge improvement in attitude since his efforts. I guess this made him some enemies among the bureaucrats, but I would have thought that journalists would have longer memories. I suppose being labelled right wing means any journalist is unpopular for supporting Rodney, but thanks Rodney for work with the IRD - you were always a better doer than a talker.

Democracy new Zealand style! Brash is on no list whatsoever and will lead this bunch of misfits into the next election - but who has elected him? "I'll join the party if they make me the leader". How can they let him away with this. Maybe the Business Round table are pulling the strings. God help us all
