Matariki is the Maori New Year, and if you have a clear night you may make out a star cluster called the Pleiades or the Seven Sisters.

Traditionally, Maori mark the occasion by planting veges for the new season, but modern day Maori like Hinewehi Mohi in Auckland like to sing rather than plant.

Watch Hinewehi and her star-studded Matariki line up for this Friday's Tiramarama concert singing 'Po Karekare Ana'.
