Hoani MacDonald talks on-field collapse

Hoani MacDonald – on October 20, the Southland Stags player took the field with his team in the ITM semi-final against Counties-Manukau.

When he collapsed a few minutes into the game, nobody had any idea how desperate his fight for life would become.

Hoani hadn't suffered a head injury as it first appeared, but a near-fatal cardiac arrest. In fact, in the next few minutes he did flatline, but was revived by ambulance officers.

And his survival truly is a blessing, as he told John Campbell in Invercargill today, sitting alongside his fiancé, Michelle, in their first interview since it all happened.

Watch the video for the full interview.
