A brutal attack on an RSA manager ten years after the triple-murder in Mt Wellington

An Auckland RSA manager is in hospital after being bound and beaten during a robbery that happened on the ten-year anniversary of the Mt Wellington triple killings.

Police have described the attack at the Hobsonville RSA as brutal and cowardly, but say it was not linked to the murders a decade ago.

“The offender when he came into the RSA did not speak to the manager at all – he just immediately launched into beating her, beating her about the face,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Andy King.

“She’s a 62 year old, so it was what you would term a cowardly act,” he says.

The RSA manager was pulled into another room where she managed to break free, but was then tied up again.

The attacker, who wore a Halloween mask, made off with cash taken from a gathering the night before.

“It’s very upsetting, but we have the strength to recover, and we’ll be with them to help them, so that’s the main thing,” says Trevor Dickey, an RSA welfare officer.

The woman in the Hobsonville attack has facial injuries and is in hospital and police say they will be reviewing CCTV footage of the attack.

The have asked anyone who was in Hobsonville Rd area and saw anything suspicious to contact them.

This person has no respect!!! As to going into a place of honour that our forefathers had established as a sanctuary for our veterans that fought for our country. To rob and visiously beat up a 62yr old woman, What is our country coming to. So many of our RSA's are closing, we dont want to lose more of our heritage. And what was the motive for this robbery? Drugs? We need more harsher penalties for people that do this. Then they may think twice!!

Better to know their are 'crazy' losers out their who are so weak that they do things this than to bury your head in the sand and pretend everything is fine in our society.

Not very sensitive of Nightline to have the public thinking this crazy person is on the loose, especially on the 10year anniversary of his dispicable crime. Contrary to TV3 info, it appears William Bell is not a parolee! And wont be eligible until 2031.
