One of New Zealand’s largest social service providers says it’s time for home health support services to prove their effectiveness, as a New Zealand Home Health Association (NZHHA) conference takes place in Wellington this week.
Presbyterian Support Northern chief executive Rod Watts says it is critical for providers “to prove their programme is making a difference”.
He says Government is “increasingly wanting demonstration” of the benefit of funded services, and recipients of the services will also benefit.
“We need to account for funding and to show that home support is making a real difference,” he says.
Presbyterian Support has spent two years collecting information from the elderly recipients of home health care, and says “results-based accountability” is proving an effective way to improve outcomes.
The NZHHA represents 48 organisations which provide healthcare, personal care and support for sick, elderly and disabled people, living in their own homes.
