The Department of Labour is laying charges over the death of a senior zoo keeper at a Northland animal Park.

Dalu Mncube, employed by Zion Wildlife Gardens, was fatally mauled by a white Bengal tiger in May as he tried to clean the animal's enclosure.

A group of tourists looked on in horror as the attack occurred - another keeper was also injured, and the tiger was eventually shot.

The Department of Labour launched an investigation into the incident, and a high-level source has today told RadioLIVE it will be laying charges.

A spokesman for the department has refused to confirm what the charges are.

Dan no one has the right to interfere in family quarrels they have more than enough to cope with - it's not you in court is it and it's certainly not you running up legal fees and debt, so what are you talking about, just mind your own business and go soak your head will you the world is not yours to do with whatever you like - you busybodies make me sick with your blah blah blah blah, pleaseee!!

I hope that thief will get what he deserves! The cats are not his and its not his park anymore either. He messed up big time and finally justice will be made. I'd love to see this blind lot of sheep when they realise he is just a handfull of manipulation and lies.

"Karen 29 NOV 2009 8:14A.M. I've read most of the comments made, that facts are SIMON You are blaming someone who was not even there. How can you make him responsible when Craig was no longer in control of the park. i think you are well aware of who should be held accountable for poor Dalu. They wanted to carry on what Craig started with Dalu as lionman, what sort of position did they put this poor man in?" Hi Karen, You must have not read my follow up, for any potential confusion where people seem to have "ASSUMED" I was labelling Craig Busch in any way responsible directly for Dalu's death is in fact a fallacy. Quite an unfortunate and sick fallacy as it transpires due to inability to read/interpret and peoples tendencies to assume the worst and sensationalize. My main worry out of all of this is that the facts were traced through correctly to the point of initial failure that allowed the apparent unsound procedures to continue, and were not unnecessarily associated with the current operator who is performing a sterling job in unenviable circumstances.

"SHARAN GORRINGE 29 NOV 2009 12:23A.M. Simon Davies said his comments were "not made at Craig Bucsh".so Mr Davies, who WAS the previous owner then,if not Craig Busch? Please leave this to the REAL experts?" Firstly, I made no speculation over ownership of the cats - I believe it is the parks "OPERATOR" that is to set the handling of the animals, and unless that person is the "OWNER" as well, then the two have no direct relation to how they are currently being quoted. When will you get it? I have not set upon Mr Busch by name ever with regard to these matters. In fact I have even stated that I actually do not lay blame at his feet? Hello? What do I have to do to be absolved from my apparent blasphemy? I have noted you among others using my name in a defamatory way in discussions on a certain public website, cheers for that. You rank highly in my opinions due to your and your compatriots behaviour. Not. Secondly, Sorry Sharan for one I had no idea you were an expert. I bow to your expertise in all matters big cat. What makes you an expert over and above me? I do not claim to be one, who am I leaving things up to? When does your knowledge trump mine on having a personal opinion on something? Does watching every episode of Lion Man make you an expert (I guess I am almost there as I have seen pretty much all of them), or do I have to meet with Craig? I don't get it? I have visited the park - or is that a lesser trump point than meeting with Mr Busch. Seriously, get a grip. I am not your enemy nor do I want to be, but you are not making friends with the tactics you employ. I suspect this is all highly interesting to the various press agencies at large anyway. If 3news need to talk to me, I have given a legit email :-)

Birdie. I am a 'she' if you wouldn't mind.
And I really do not think this is just a family quarrel either.
Do you honestly think that they would have sacked him over a family row? The silliest reason I have seen mentioned is greed on his mothers part. Yet people are always quick to point out that the park needed lots of income to survive, so that rules that out, too.
We should be so quick to judge all these people he has supposedly upset. After all, if it was the other way around, aned he sacked his mother, how many of you would leap to HER defense, even tho it was she who made sure the park stayed in existence?
I think Craig should also be held accountable for his actions and not use his fans and fame to absolve him.

Dan, observation; you seem to write with the style of a certain female twin!

This is aimed at dan and his comment on the 28 Nov 2009 12:11a.m.

Dan actually it very much so can be said that if "Craig" had been there then this would never have happened. WHY? Because quite simply he never allowed anyone near the adult Tigers other than himself and there too only the ones he had hand raised - what you seem not to understand along with the park's now operator and the one before Tim also along with the MAF; is that you need to have a good deal of experience to go playing with Tigers and Lions which Dalu did not have - he had in fact by his own admission on the series made of Lionman when Craig was in South Africa and met him; he said to Craig "I have only ever been working with young Lion cubs and would love to come and work with you" and remember here too there was actually someone else as the main lion cub handler in charge.
He started working with Craig in NZ and beginning to gain some experience but really lacked the years of experience that Craig had when Craig's departure came about; which I still find a strange course of events over a family quarrel; since he is the majority shareholder and the management only have secure some 12.5% but because the management were given control over the park though they did not actually buy that 12.5% but arranged a loan to pay off Craig's debt's at the time of some $2.5 million by putting up their property as collateral and because they were family member they were trusted to treat the deal with respect and trust as it seems too ludicrous to imagine that Craig had understood what was being asked for in this contract at the time drawn up by said family member (according to what I have read in the media) there is no way he would sign over the control of his life’s work and pet’s to someone else even if it was a family member. I mean he was going through hell at the time and looking after 44 big cats for heavens sake!
