A woman was fatally shot in broad daylight this afternoon in Warkworth, north of Auckland.

The incident allegedly occurred outside the victim's house. The shooter then drove the woman to  a nearby medical centre, but she was dead on arrival.

Police are speaking to a 20-year-old unemployed man in relation to the shooting. It is believed the victim is the man's girlfriend. They are not seeking anyone else..

Police have a weapon - it is not known at this stage what kind of gun it is.

Drugs are not believed to be a factor.

Police cordoned off the area, as well as nearby Alnwick Street for an hour but the streets are now open.

Two cars outside the medical centre were been covered with blue tarpaulin by police.

Initial reports suggest the gunman tried to stop the woman from receiving medical assistance. It is now believed he drove her to the medical centre in order to get her medical assistance.

Jan: I dont think race or which country you come from has anything to do with it. Crimes/killings has been in this country far longer than, when your so call "forigners" came to this country. Next time you go the supermarket/diary or even the post office, remember that the person who is serving you might be a "forigners" you are talking about and they are helping to run this country.

Hard to say if its murder or an accident..More death in our country, guns involved, we never used to have guns as such..
The killing in this country must be stopped, its getting out of hand.. check and trace all the the people that arrives to our country the same time the killing and corruptions first occurs..We have more forigners become kiwi citizens over the last years , I wonder how they got into our country and who is bringing all these forigners in to our country..

I'm the same age as both people involved, and I went to college in Warkworth, so there's a possibility I knew either one of them.

Was at Mahurangi college when incident happened. Large number of police cars drove past and we were told to stay indoors. Very frightening. Went to crime scene after college ended.
