The liquidation of freight transport firm Rapid Roadfreighters may cost up to 250 people their jobs, it was reported today.

The company went into liquidation just before Christmas, costing about 15 people in Palmerston North their jobs, the Manawatu Standard reported.

The newspaper said managing director John Cole couldn't be reached for comment yesterday.

The company had more than 200 vehicles and 250 employees throughout New Zealand, according to its website.

Liquidator Bryan Williams, appointed on December 24, said his first report on the company would be released early next week.

Be interesting to see if one of the big freight company will make an offer to obtain customers or if there is a follow up storie here. We had a similar linehaul carrier in Australia last year. Small freight companies finding it tought where the likes off Toll are snapping up the struggling ones ref to the USA freight forwarder they just took over Simon from www.cheapcouriers.com.au
