The expulsion of journalists from Fiji and crackdown on civil liberties is deplored by New Zealand's Newspaper Publishers' Association and its Media Freedom Committee.

The NPA is encouraging a freer flow of information from Fiji by setting up a dedicated email site.

"The Bainimarama regime may be able to muzzle the Fiji media but it can't control internet access and completely cut off the country," NPA chief executive Tim Pankhurst said.

He said anyone in Fiji, or anywhere else, who had relevant comments or pictures or video could post them to the new address -- freefiji@newspapers.co.nz

The site will be monitored by the NPA and any news arising will be circulated by the New Zealand Press Association.

"Bainimarama is a bully who gets more dangerous by the day," Mr Pankhurst said.

"It is vital his illegal regime gets full scrutiny and that we support our Fijian journalist colleagues and all those concerned with free speech and a prosperous and inclusive Fiji as much as possible."
