Should 'gay' lyric be banned in classic Australian song?
A school in Victoria is removing the word “gay” from a classic Australian song, asking its student to instead say “fun”.
The line “Gay your life must be” from the song ‘Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree' is at the centre of the controversy.
Principal Garry Martin, of Cheltenham's Lepage Primary, says the word’s meaning has changed since the song was written and the school was erring on the side of caution.
