Heavy rain
forced three homes in Golden Bay to evacuate overnight two weeks after the
region was soaked by a deluge.
Police say the
households left the addresses in Pohara Valley Road of their own accord as a
precaution.
The Takaka fire
brigade was also called out to deal with minor incidents, while there were no
callouts in Nelson.
The Nelson and
Tasman regions are still recovering from the heaviest rainfall in 40 years
earlier this month.
The deluge
cause flooding and dozens of landslips and the forecast was for heavy rain for
much of Friday and into Saturday.
MetService
spokesman Dan Corbett says over 100mm had fallen in the ranges around Nelson
overnight and more was set to come.
"We're certainly
done yet with it," he told Radio New Zealand.
Civil Defence
in the region had closed roads and issued warnings ahead of the low pressure
system moving in.
Parts of Cable
Bay Road, Iwa Road and Moana Avenue in Nelson, and part of Aniseed Valley Road
in Waimea, in anticipation of the soaking.
A number of
Golden Bay roads were being monitored.
Significant
rain is also expected in northern Marlborough, Taranaki, Bay of Plenty,
Northland, Wellington and the Kapiti Coast over the coming days as the weather
system takes its time to cross the country.
