The SPCA's 2012 list of shame includes horrific cases of killing and injuring animals in "grievously inhumane" ways.

LBV the SPCAs main job is actually the prevention of cruelty to animals which is why they prosecute offenders. it is called the Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(RNZSPCA).

@ LBV police do not get prosecuted because them themselves have the same powers under the animal welfare act 1999 as animal welfare inspectors do from SPCA and MPI (formerly MAF) Inspectors adhere to regulations and guidelines under the animal welfare act 1999 and their own beliefs do not come into it. They should not be prosecuting police they should do what they are doing and prosecute people who commit an offence aginst the act. Penalties for such offences against the act can be quite severe including up to $50,000 fine and 3 years imprisonment and in some cases it can be both. Like you I do think judges should be imposing harsher sentences for animal abusers, but the reality is there should be harsher sentences for anyone committing offences

Inflated??? Wtf? Have you ever seen the result of a dog that has been dragged behind a car going at speed over gravel roads...deliberately?? There isnt much left, and hopefully is dead. This HAPPENS. These people deserve to be named and shamed, they are disgusting. It is NOT acceptable to torture and murder an animal!! What is wrong with these people? Boring lives? Serial killers in the making? Too much preservatives? Lack of medication? Or are they just monsters?
What these people are not, is sick. That would offer some level of an excuse, and this is NO excuse for this to happen. JAIL should be the first option. Criminal records and a animal abuse register, just like a sex offender register, never allowed near animals again. SOMETHING must be done to stop this!!!! I am now at the stage where I really hope that there is a massive wipeout of humans on this earth in Dec. we dont deserve to live. Do unto others...you mongrels, I wish that the punishment would equal the crime, like like and all that. THEN we would see who is big and brave and so strong for picking on those weaker/more vulnerable than they are....mongrels.

Animal abuse should be treated exactly the same as people abuse. No if's, no but's, no excuses. Beat a child or beat an animal is no different in practice. It is also been proven animal cruelty usually leads to human cruelty and needs strong punishment at the beginning for best results.

What I would like to know is why an organisation funded by voluntary donations is prosecuting people and not the police? Perhaps animal welfare would be viewed differently if they were treated as criminals not separately.
Most who are involved in the SPCA are doing good work, but I have heard enough stories to believe they are infiltrated and influenced by some who are militant in their views that go beyond animal welfare and into personal beliefs.
If it is illegal to mistreat an animal it should be a criminal matter and dealt with like other criminals.
