Hospital food

Hospital food

Patients have been going out of their way to alert the media to hospital food horror stories.

Campbell Live has been granted special access to the kitchen at a hospital to calm the fears of patients who've been turning their noses up at hospital food. Waitemata Hospital believes the food they serve is so tasty that they invited a reporter to come try it.

So is hospital food tasty and nutritious, or not? And how much does a meal really cost?

food is food, why does everyone have to complain so much! Not having food would be more of an issue!

I have had 11 operations in 13 years in both private and public hospitals and have always found the food excellant. Once I spent 3 days in the womens ward at Kew in invercargill. When asked by staff the women all exclaimed how great the food was then as soon as the staff were gone all they did was bitch about it although I found it great.

I stayed in Aklnd Hosp in Oct/Nov 1997, for two weeks, @ I never had any probs with thier food at all. Immediately after that, I was in Rehabilitation Plus in Mt Albert, for a good two months, and I found their food too, was just fantastic, if not a little small in portion servings, that's all. But they accommadated that for me. They didn't really have to at all, but they just did, for which I was grateful in recieving large/r portions of meals. I LIVED inside Nrth Shore Hosp from Oct/Nov, for over two months, in 2002, and had it not beeen for my Cancerous body, and its condition at the time, I would've most willingly, @ uncomplaingly wolfed down ALL OF THEIR FOOD, WITHOUT HESITATION. It was only because of my Cancerous body condition at the time, that put me off all hot food. Other than that, people need to get their priorities straight, and their minds/heads right. Especially if Hospitals go out of their ways to present such an extensive menu/s to their patients. In other words, Hospital Food is Great, and sure is hell better than nothing at all. Bon Appetite!

Get real!!! It's a hospital not a hotel! Do you want our taxes to go up to cover flasher meals? Healthy and cost effective is all that's needed! And also.. Why should hosptial food be any better than prison food anyway?!?!

Everyones taste is different so you can not please all patients, and it is primarily for nutritional value. I would rather have bland food and the best medical care possible then die at the Hilton. I was at Waikato Hospital and thankful for the medical care and excellent caring staff. If you don't like the food bugger off and pay for a private hospital and whinge all you like.

Don't know if your team realised it, but you picked out the public hospital with the best food ever, always with choices, well cooked, balanced, and appetising. As a patient of several visits, I've always wanted to congratulate the chefs and staff there. Wish I could say the same for the sister hospital, North Shore. They must surely receive the same ingredients, but what they do with them is unprintable. Great programme you have there John Campbell and team! Thanks

Any one who has stayed in a hospital would tell you that you would never get the food that waitemata hospital had shown to Campbell Live. It seemed that the hopistal has upgraded their meal for the day just for the camera. I had stayed in hospital myself and have close friends who works as nurses at various hospitals, and they constanly talk about how blend and unappetizing the patients' food is.
