How New Zealand athletes fared at the London Olympics on Saturday, July 28:

CYCLING: JACK BAUER finishes 10th after an impressive ride, while GREG HENDERSON pulls out with illness.

EQUESTRIAN: JONATHAN PAGET on Clifton Promise lies sixth with 44.10 penalty points and Jonelle Richards and Flintstar 24th with 56.50 points after the first day of the dressage in the eventing.

ROWING: Men's pair HAMISH BOND and ERIC MURRAY smash the world record by almost six seconds in winning their heat to advance to the semi-final; single scullers MAHE DRYSDALE and EMMA TWIGG progress to their quarter-final with comfortable heat wins; double scullers NATHAN COHEN and JOSEPH SULLIVAN won their heat with a fast finish to progress to the semi-final; pair JULIETTE HAIGH and REBECCA SCOWN are in their final after a second-placed heat finish; women's quadruple sculls of EVE MACFARLANE, FIONA BOURKE, LOUISE TRAPPITT and SARAH GRAY were third in their heat and must contest Monday's repechage; men's quad sculls ROBBIE MANSON, MATTHEW TROTT, MICHAEL ARMS and JOHN STOREY are pushed into fourth by a fast-finishing Australia and must tackle the repechage on Monday.

SOCCER: An 86th-minute goal to striker Cristiane gives Brazil a 1-0 win over the Football Ferns in Cardiff.

SWIMMING: GLENN SNYDERS breaks his national 100m breaststroke record in his heat, but goes slower in the semi-final to miss a spot in the final. Also missing the finals were 400m freestyler MATTHEW STANLEY who was 14th; NATALIE WIEGERSMA was 19th fastest in the 400m individual medley; the 4x100m women's freestyle relay team of TASH HIND, PENELOPE MARSHALL, AMAKA GESSLER and HAYLEY PALMER also fail to progress out of their heat and finished 14th overall.
