The blueprint for the new-look Christchurch CBD was released today.

It includes light rail, a new aquatic centre and European-style boulevards and precincts.

At our special request, a 3D modeller took the images and created a virtual experience.

why why would anyone want to shift to the North when we have always known that the SI is the more beautiful of the two islands; tourists spend twice as much time in the South than the North now. Rebuild CHCH bigger and better I say

Pretty sure they wont rebuild the city on unsafe land that why they brought in the red zones etc. A lot of the city is also built on shingle (as it used to be a river bed) if you look on the other side of the city not shown on tv there is hardly any damage at all. So the whole city doesnt need to be relocated to North Island where we can wait for a volcano to erupt. Pretty sure 90% of the people would rather live on so called "unsafe" land than move to Auckland bahah.

DO you really think they will rebuild on unsafe land? The earthquakes will subside and the land they build on will be safe, in fact safer than most parts of New Zealand because all that land will be checked and they know it will be safe. Also do you think its a good idea for 300,000+ people to move to the North Island where they already have there own problems and challenges to face? I say go for it!
