The Happy Feet tracker is charting the emperor penguin's progress

By 3news.co.nz staff

Happy Feet the emperor penguin was last seen bobbing in the Southern Ocean after being encouraged down a hydro slide off the Tangaroa, just north of Campbell Island.

Since then his journey has been somewhat erratic, with the penguin initially taking a random route.

However, he now seems to be heading in the right direction and is well on his way to Antarctica and presumably, fellow penguins.

If you want to track the penguin yourself you can go to Gareth Morgan’s website – ourfarsouth.org.

Mr Morgan and a company called Sirtrack paid for and implemented the tracking system.

It is expected to last until next April when Happy Feet will moult, so if all goes to plan people will be tracking Happy Feet for a long time to come.
