At 8.15am tomorrow our time, Nick Willis is odds on to add to New Zealand’s medal tally in the 1500m final.

We have  a proud legacy in this Olympic event with Jack Lovelock in 1936, Peter Snell in 1964 and John Walker 1976 all winning gold.

Now, 36 years on, what does walker, now Sir John Walker, make of Willis' chances of joining the elite kiwi club?
