The editor of Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper has traded insults with actor Hugh Grant at the Leveson inquiry into journalistic ethics.

The inquiry was set up in the wake of the British media's phone hacking scandal, and Grant claims he was one of the victims.

Grant directly accused the Mail on Sunday of hacking his phone, saying he could not “think of any conceivable source of the story… except the voice messages on my mobile telephone”.

The paper has previously denied the accusations and now says they are an attempt by Grant to “hijack the inquiry”.
