Hugh Jackman insists he didn’t cry “much” during Real Steel.

The actor plays Charlie Kenton in the movie, which is set in a time where robot boxing is hugely popular. Charlie and his son find an old machine which has been discarded and set about creating a champion from it.

Much of the movie focuses on Charlie’s relationship with his Max and it includes some emotional moments.

While discussing the release on UK television show Daybreak, the interviewer told Hugh several women near him had burst into tears while watching it. “Is that your way of saying you shed a tear but you don’t want to say? ‘Oh a friend of mine cried…,’” Hugh laughed.

“Actually, a friend of mine cried. My mother-in-law, she saw it and cried. My wife cried, my kids cried. I didn’t cry… much.”

Charlie is a former boxer, so Hugh did some training before shooting commenced. He didn’t have to get into superb shape though, which he was grateful for.

The star has previously admitted one of the reasons he was drawn to the movie was because it appealed to his children Oscar, 11, and six-year-old Ava.

He was also keen to get involved with a challenging picture, as he initially had no idea how the plot could be sold to the public.

“I thought, ‘This is interesting, this is something I’ve never heard before.’ And I was like, ‘How are we going to make people interested in robots?’” he explained.
