In the bowels of a Parisian train station lives Hugo (Asa Butterfield), an orphan boy quietly keeping the clocks running on time and hiding from the nasty unsuspecting station inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen).
Hugo is befriended by Isabelle (Chloe Moretz), a fellow orphan livings a far more salubrious life with her godfather Georges (Sir Ben Kingsley), who runs a store at the station fixing old toys.
A mystery unfolds between them which will dig up their past and change their future forever; and in doing so gifts us all an ode to the magic of the movies that should not be missed.
What a delectable way to kick-start 2012 this was, and I beg you please see Hugo in 3D. This really is one of those movies, like The Adventures Of Tintin, which is really worth the ticket price.
Thanks to Martin Scorsese's inimitable vision and storytelling, Hugo reminded me why I became a movie addict, and why I still am.
A gorgeous 5 star start to the cinematic year.
