Former wrestling star Hulk Hogan has confessed he almost quit the ring to become Metallica's bass player.

The 56-year-old star played bass guitar in his high school band, and would have turned his back on fighting at the height of his fame if calls to the 'Master of Puppets' rockers had been returned.

Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, tells the Chicago Tribune newspaper, "When Metallica was looking for a bass player, I called and never heard a word back from them. I would have quit wrestling in a heartbeat to be a bass player for Metallica."

And they're not the only rockers he fought for the chance to play bass for: "I was in England presenting an award with Jerry Hall, Mick Jagger's ex, and she told me The Stones were looking for a bass player. I sent her a ton of merchandise that she asked for and said, 'Tell Mick I'm a great bass player.' I never heard a word back."

"The 56-year-old star played bass guitar in his high school band" Yeah because we all know high school bands are renowned for their quality bass players...This article is a joke...

Ahaha...I can almost imagine Hulk Hogan standing next to James, Kirk and Lars on stage with his awesome mustache xD Nah, Rob does just fine. But I'd love to see them play at least once.

Oh, that makes total sense. Let's see Jason Newsted Replaced the great Cliff Burton. WHat other great bassists could measure up? Robert Trujillio? No, we need... Hulk Hogan!

NWO FOR LIFE!

That's saracasm by the way.
