If art is meant to create debate then a Lower Hutt exhibition has probably done its job before it even opens.
The publicly funded Dowse Art Museum is about to show a video showing Muslim women without their black veils, or 'abaya'.
The artist has asked that men be excluded from the audience as their inclusion would contravene the faith of the women who agreed to be filmed.
Regardless, the gallery has received angry complaints and some men are insisting on attending the opening on Saturday.
Now the Human Rights Commission has stepped in to mediate.
Whena Owen has been assessing the response – watch the video.
