An armed and dangerous gang member - who tattooed his name on his girlfriend's face before he killed her - is on the run after allegedly breaching his parole conditions, Waikato police say.
Police are looking for Black Power member Leon Colin Wilson, 42, who has contacts throughout the North Island.
Anyone seeing him is warned not to approach him but to contact police.
In 1996 Wilson was jailed for life, with a minimum non-parole period of 10 years, for the murder of his former partner Leonie Newman, who he stabbed 28 times.
Ms Newman had the words "property of Leon" tattooed across her face.
Police said Wilson was believed to be involved in the methamphetamine trade.
Wilson is described as Maori, about 178cm tall and of fat to solid build.
He may be driving a blue Ford Falcon with the personalised plate M4YH3M.
