Geebo - Good point, why aren't the media wrongly misleading people into thinking these pig dogs were Pit Bulls like they usually do? They did it with the 13 year old last year and Koro Dinsdale back in 97, in fact they always do it. Very strange, media must be feeling sick.

Max - Breeders do breed for temperament. None more so than with real Pit Bull Terriers. If you bothered with research you would know Pit Bull Terriers have historically been bred for a sound temperament around humans. This is not something I imagine, it's a fact. Hence they were once known as the nanny dogs. You are also very ignorant on the Pit Bull's origins I take it, which many consider to the most direct descendent of the old English Bulldogs. So if you were to cull all dogs with "Pit Bull" blood, you would have to cull Boxers, Boston Terriers, Staffordshires, English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and all their cross breeds etc because they all share the same blood. And who are you to assume these dogs in this news article were Pit Bulls considering the amount of times media have actually gotten it wrong in the past? All credit to the media not jumping the gun on this one. Finally.

Pig dogs are cross bred dogs. The only dog shown in any coverage on the net looked like a Golden Retriever cross. Pits are not naturally aggressive and will not attack without provocation. Take a bow Helen Clarke and all the others for introducing BSL. An utter failure but it made you feel good at the time. All dog owners should be held accountable for the actions of their dogs.

Breeders can breed for temperament. It is an inheritable trait. The American Pit Bull's temperament is well documented. It will be randomly inherited by all manner of cross bred mongrels of that APB origin. They were deliberately bred for that trait for generations by amoral people of evil intent. No amount of nurture will change it any more than it would a Mako shark or a Polar bear. The only way to cure it is to cull it from the population at its every appearance. Small consolation to the victims of the people stupid enough to perpetuate this breed and others like it.

thats why I don't have a dog.. its their natural animal instinct to attack.. my heart goes out the lady and her family.. shoot the owner not the dogs, if they had of been trained properly or locked up this would never have happened.

I hate it when I hear people talking about Pitbull's being passive. Thats why they are so dangerous. All of a sudden they nut out. I had a very passive pitbull that was just our baby. It was really good with kids and then one day out of the blue it jumped on my toddlers back and started attacking. Google other stories, it will make you watch your "passive" Pitbull more....

I bet not a Pit Bull, I have an American Pitbull Cross with Bull Mastiff, and he's extremely passive, if anything, he's scared of cats. At the end of the day it's the blimin' dog owners responsibility.
