IRB pulls John Key handshake from YouTube

Wed, 26 Oct 2011 9:31a.m.

The International Rugby Board (IRB) has apparently clamped down on video footage showing Prime Minister John Key's bumbled attempts to shake Richie McCaw's hand following the Rugby World Cup final.

Footage of the incident - in which IRB chairman Bernard Lapasset gets his handshake in first and leaves Mr Key floundering and making a belated clasp at McCaw's fingers - was proving popular on the YouTube video website.

It also spawned a Facebook page called: "That awkward moment when John Key crashes your handshake".

However, the uploads on Wednesday carried the message: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by International Rugby Board."

The message also replaced the footage on news websites which linked to the YouTube video.

3 News has not been asked to remove the footage, which you can watch by clicking 'view video'.

Nobody cares TV3. He was excited by the moment like everyone else in the country and was eager to shake McCaw's hand. It's a non story.

Not much of a clamp down. Mine was the only video blocked by the IRB, there's about 6 others that are still up. I think the IRB blocked mine because they were jealous of how many views I was getting.

Everyone was so caught up in the Hype of the moment, I dont think anyone was upset or put out by this incident. They were both just so eager to shake his hand to congratulate the team! GO BLACK!
