The latest movie in the Ice Age franchise has shattered box office records around the world thanks to a US$78 million weekend opening.

Ice Age 4: Continental Drift doesn’t open in the US until 13 July but it is already doing great business overseas, where it has debuted at number one in most markets.

The movie, featuring the voice talents of Denis Leary and Ray Romano, has scored the biggest opening weekend ever in Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Chile, and the biggest debut for an animated movie in Norway, Sweden, Ecuador and Bolivia.
