The Auckland City Council is celebrating a rare victory against illegal tyre dumpers with the successful prosecution of a South Auckland business.

Tyre dumping is a major problem in New Zealand; tens of thousands are dumped onto private property, public streets and reserves every year.

Tyres are toxic and expensive to remove, and catching the culprits is incredibly difficult because they often do it in the dead of night.

Campbell Live investigates the illegal practise.
