Until recently, Syria’s president Bashar Assad portrayed himself as the modern leader of a reforming state.

However, the violence of the past 11 months has reminded many of his father, who brutally crushed a revolt 30 years ago.

Channel Four's Jonathan Rugman looks at the dynasty that's run Syria for more than 40 years.
