The Balloon Aviation Association says it's worrying for the industry

Industry experts fear that calls for all hot air balloons in the country to be checked immediately for safety issues will be damaging for the industry.

Investigators say that a hot air balloon which crashed in Carterton last month, killing all 11 people on board, may not have been air-worthy.

The Balloon Aviation Association says that's worrying for the industry.

Martyn Stacey says regardless of the panic within the industry, the country's biggest ballooning event - Balloons Over Wairarapa - will go ahead in a fortnight.

It's not that they shouldn't be inspected... It's more the way TAIC and CAA are going about it. It casts a shadow over the industry and implies that high safety standards aren't being adhered to by a majority. There are many operators who will lose vital business because of the scaremongering that's going on. The point that's being made is this all could have been handed better.
