The lineup for next year’s New Zealand International Arts Festival has been announced at a launched in Wellington this evening.
All eyes and ears were on what next year’s festival has to offer, but with 300 acts to choose from, some might find selecting just one impossible.
“We've invited quite a few festival companies back. Listened to audiences. We give them what they like. We also give them what they don't know they like,” says festival artistic director Lisa Twomey.
The three-week celebration begins in February next year.
One of the highlights will be Wellington artist Michel Tuffery, whose work will transform the outside of Te Papa.
“Just give the audience an experience,” he says. “We never get to see those beautiful little butterflies – this is a chance to bring it out.”
Despite attracting around 300,000 to the capital, last year’s festival made a loss.
So to ensure history doesn’t repeat, ticket prices have dropped, starting at just $38.
