Back in the day the dateless and desperate would place an ad in a newspaper. These days they're more likely to turn to the internet in search of love or at least a non-smoker who must like dogs and have a sense of humour.
Sunrise's very own Rachel Goodchild.shares the dos and don'ts of internet dating from her extensive experience. Watch the video.
RACHEL SAYS:
So many people are doing it. There may be a perception that it's a weird thing to do, but even most of the people saying that have had a profile at some stage.
The key to finding someone online is to follow some pretty simple rules.
1. Be honest in your profile. Work out what you are looking for and state it directly. Put everything in a positive note. A pile of "I don't want this or that" is a huge warning sign
2. Put your photo up. And make it a good one. (Keeping it relatively natural - and no ex's or cars or piles of cats in the shot!)
3. Work out the style that fits you best. Some prefer to talk for a long time, others like to meet up fairly quickly. I've done both depending on the person
4. No matter what you have talked about, when you meet, treat it like a clean slate. and be careful to get to intimate fast. Online communications can really feel amazing- then you can meet the person and realise their online persona is nothing like their real life one.
