Innocent people getting punished. Criminals getting away without punishment. Thats like getting phone disconnected for a call someone else makes. also the assumption of guilt without proof, and then the guilty person having to prove they are innocent. this is opposite to other crimes. It is like saying if you are accused of murder you are guilty until YOU prove you are not guilty.

With regards copyright law itself - it is completely out of control, and ONLY works to the benefit of large (and generally foreign) corporations. If you're an individual you simply do not have the financial clout to try to sue a corporation.

The US govt wanted NZ to inflict this law so badly it offered to pay for it - as per a wikileaked cable. The govt passed it anyway - sneaking it through under "emergency" earthquake legislation. The people who debated it on the National side clearly had no idea what was going on - it was like someone's mum had wandered in.

Copyright has encroached more and more and more over the last 100 years - there is zero evidence that it achieves any purpose other than allowing corporations to place a stranglehold over creativity.

We should scale it back radically... not pass increasingly draconian laws to protect the old gatekeepers.

I would be in favour of scrapping it completely - and I'm a musician.

Piracy is not as big a problem as "the industry".
