An intruder was arrested at Miley Cyrus' Los Angeles home in the early hours of Saturday morning after emergency services were called to the property.

Police officers responded to a 911 call from the star's house in Studio City and they found a man in the bushes outside.

The intruder, named as named 40-year-old Jason Luis Rivera, reportedly scaled a fence to get into the grounds and was arrested on suspicion of trespassing.

As officers questioned Rivera and removed a large pair of scissors from his back pocket he insisted he knew the 19-year-old actress and singer.

“I'm a friend of Miley Cyrus,’ said Rivera. “I am. Me and Miley have been friends for five years.”

He was taken into custody and bail was set at US$1,000.

Actress/singer Cyrus is not believed to have been at home at the time of the incident.
