Authorities are investigating the cause of a suspicious fire that engulfed several properties in Blenheim this morning.

A unit on Warwick Street went up in flames at around 2am, spreading to two neighbouring homes.

There were initial reports that someone was inside but that proved not to be the case.

Fire Communications shift manager, Rewai Grace, says it took fire crews from across the region to bring it under control.

“We had six fire service appliances attend from Blenheim, Renwick and Picton and the last truck left there just over half an hour ago,” says Mr Grace.

Fire Safety is investigating the cause of the blaze and whether an accelerant was used.
