Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that his country was determined to send its first astronaut into space by 2025.

"I hope with the grace of God and the help of our academics and experts we can send the first Iranian astronaut to space before 2025," he said in an address to a group of academics.

He also said Iran needed to continue developing the technology to put larger satellites into orbit.
