Is there enough pride in the jersey?

I want to hear Richie McCaw tell us they were rubbish I want to hear Richie McCaw tell us they were rubbish

What a surprise a chorus of Henry bashing dominated the slightly surreal world of talkback radio after another loss to the Springboks. I am of course taking the weeze. It's no surprise Henry and co copped it. But I am surprised by the lack of scrutiny of player performance and attitude. How can it be that this bunch of highly paid individuals has been let of the hook by our pro-Deans media? And isn't it about time the players themselves stood up? Personally I want to hear Richie McCaw tell us they were rubbish. To suggest they need to "man up" may be a bit on the heavy side. But right now I think there a few doses of the disease "oh well, the monies in the bank" creeping in. And heaven forbid but maybe, just maybe there isn't quite enough pride in the jersey. The skill level was more embarrassing than the helter skelter tactics this team seem determined to employ. What on earth has the pass and catch coach been doing?

This is not the best Bok team of all time, but it is up there. Should we ignore that when we have a team that includes no names like Franks, Ross and Donald ? Potential aplenty I don't dispute. But still a mile away from competing at the top level. Add to the mix a slightly "out of sorts" Captain. And not forgetting an out of form Joe Rokocoko who is playing like he'd struggle to make John Campbell's Victoria University Mixed vegies of the 80's. Joe needs to go and have some family time and come back hungry for a bit of provincial rugby. The same could possibly be said for Mils Muliaina. Strangely the minute he starts getting mentioned as an All Black fullback great he starts to lose his form.

A final point. Go the bucket heads. And if the full frontal lobotomy brigade that select our Super 14 squads don't find a place for Manawatu flanker Nick Crosswell next year it will be one of rugby's great injustices. How much could he add to the Blues? There isn't a loosie in Auckland rugby who is a patch on this bloke. With a bit of help from Aaron Cruden Crosswell was an inspiration in Manawatu's 36-31 win over Counties. Watch this space.
