A man who stabbed his friend to death at an Auckland boarding house after an alleged deal to sell jewellery for drugs turned sour has been jailed for eight years and six months.
Martin Olley, 31, was found guilty of the manslaughter of John Patrick Chambers, 23, by a jury in November.
Mr Chambers was found dead at Eden Park Lodge on September 11, 2010 from stab wounds.
Olley was sentenced at the High Court at Auckland on Friday.
He was charged with murder but the jury decided at the end of a two-week trial that he was guilty of his manslaughter instead.
The Crown said during the trial the conflict between Olley and Mr Chambers, who were drug associates, began after the sale of a necklace found on Trade Me fell through after it turned out to be made of silver rather than white gold.
Olley stabbed Mr Chambers in the chest as he sat in the kitchen inflicting a deep wound in his lung and heart.
