An Auckland man convicted of organising a child sex tour to Thailand has been jailed for three years.

The 48-year-old, who has name suppression because of another pending court case, was found guilty in a landmark case last year.

During the trial the court heard how the former motel owner organised a tour to Thailand for an undercover policeman and gave him advice on seeking sex with underage boys.

In sentencing the judge described the crime as despicable and said there was nothing to suggest he had given any thought to the suffering which the offending would cause.

He said the man’s remorse – conveyed through his lawyer – was simply too little too late.

However, he did note the man had accepted his conviction, had previously taken steps to address his sexual issues and had continued support from his family.
