A weary James Morrison returned home after touring his debut album - and says it was the simple things which greeted him that have inspired his next musical offering.
With Songs For You, Truths For Me out this month - the singer sat down with AP Entertainment to reveal the personal stories behind the album.
After all the success and international gigs following his 2006 CD Undiscovered - James says it was his homecoming that really got him going again.
"I just chose things and subjects and feelings that I had felt in the last couple of years - I was away from home a hell of a lot so I was missing my girlfriend and missing the stable kind of consistency in my life."
With only a month off in between being on the road and being back in the studio - family matters also played a big part in his writing process.
"I had a baby on the way so there's a couple of songs that kind of hint towards that as well, yeah, I mean there's a song on the album for the baby called 'Fix Your World Up For You'."
He continues: "And there's a song called 'Love is Hard' which I felt like I had to write really, because I kind of already got a couple of songs on the album with love in the title and I'll probably get criticised for it, but that's what I felt, you know."
Now with a very little girl to look after, born earlier this month - the gravely-voiced singer is back on form and has he's released his lead single 'You Make It Real For Me'.
But don't expect the rest of Morrison's music to be lullabies - he reckons there's definitely some adult content on the album:
"If it's a summer day and you want something upbeat 'The Only Night' would probably be the track I'd choose, just because it's straight away bang, straight in, no messing around, yeah, I'm very pleased with that song."
James went on to pick out another key number on 'Songs for You...':
"If you're having a bit of a tiff with your lover download 'If You Don't Want To Love Me', that will get you kissing and cuddling again."
As for the future, world domination and all that, Morrison reckons he already has a sweet deal:
"I'm a pretty simple man, you know, I don't ask for a lot, as long as enough people buy it to keep me going and I can still do great shows, I'm happy with that, but yeah, obviously I want to sell millions like everyone else does."
Songs For You, Truths for Me is released on 29th September 2008.
