Beware of CTC. They promise it all at the start. In the UK hundreds of CTC graduates are jobless with debts in excess of £65000. The airlines may get their pilots but the training environment for the trainees is one of jealously and career sabbotage. 90% of staff are nice, pleasant people but the underpaid, poorly motivated 10% will try all they can to derail your confidence and reputation. Watch the news and read the papers from Britain. CTC will make headlines for all the wrong reasons within the next 18-months.
Yup, my husband has his Private Pilots Licence, and was turned down because he can't fund his own course! He asked the lady on the phone about it, and she said it's only 90% guarentee that you get a job, and only if you're good enough. Load of rubbish!
WOW - pilot demand growing around the world. Where abouts exactly? Certainly not in NZ and most definitely no where near proporsionate to the number of pilots being produced. False advertising - you bet!!!!
Can I please stress that the cadetship as explained by their website, is not a paid cadetship and will cost the trainee considerably more than if they went through the traditional route of flying school - general aviation job - regional airline - major airline. It's like you will pay an exceptional premium for the OPPORTUNITY for a jet job within 2yrs. The jetstar cadetship will cost in the region of $180-200K of which 90% will be on a student loan of some sort or repaid to jetstar via a 6 year salary sacrifice. That means you will be paid less than your colleagues for the first 6 years of your job with jetstar. The other thing to consider is that to make captain your will need to have the aviation experience to obtain an Airline Transport Licence (ATPL). The cadetship will not provide that experience and there will potentially be additional costs to gain that experience in your own time at your own (further) expense. IMHO this cadetship will be crippling financially in the long run. I'm a current airline pilot whose seen the changes that student loan funded flight training has brought to the NZ aviation scene. This is not a golden egg for aspiring pilots, this is a opportunity for jetstar to sign up cheap labour. think of this - in 6-7yrs time Jetstar will potentially have flight deck crews with less than 7yrs industry experience operating some very technical equipment. Most pilots who have done the traditional route have 10yrs experience each before they get into a jet airliner...
What a load of rubbish John Campbell! it is most delinately not free. As Tim suggests the total course fees will cost you roughly $200k with a possible opportunity of employment there after if you meet the grade....nothing in this world is free my friend.
Is anybody else as angry with the false advertising here as I am? Absolutely disgusting considering the huge hurdle that money can be for aspiring pilots
Well if someone thinks the application process seems too daunting to face, they probably don't have the right stuff to get through the intensive course anyway! But they should probably stick with it, certainly they don't have what it takes to succeed in the traditional route where there are few jobs and all at less than the Jetstar cadetship pays. Frankly if a few of the no-hopers get edited out, the less money the goverment wastes in student loans for failed courses. There's no room anywhere in aviation for those who expect it to be made easy and palatible for them.
Honestly people, it is not greater an opportunity than going to a conventional flight school, or getting a degree&licence combo - the Jetstar cadetship costs, in total, after they deduct their sponsorship from your salary (if you get employed, around $200,000 NZ. And, there is no job guarantee, a fairly solid foot in the door maybe, but not employment as a F/O.
Who are they kidding, the application process is such a drag therefore they can't just let all those people who're interested into the training program.
The course is run by CTC Aviation (NZ) and their website is www.ctcwings.co.nz - It's a fantastic flight school and I can honestly say the training provided is very good indeed. This is a very big opportunity for budding NZ pilots which us in the UK are quite envious about!! Hope this information helps - all the best.
