John Campbell has apologised to Ken Ring

By John Campbell

Last night we had Ken Ring on the programme.

It will have been apparent to anyone watching that I don't believe he can predict earthquakes.

Nor do any of the scientists here.

But many people I've spoken to in this city do - and Mr Ring's predictions terrify them.

After a week here watching this city shouldering the burden of last Tuesday, I believe, with all my heart, that Christchurch doesn't need that kind of stress.

They are hurting enough already.

But I should have kept my heart out of it - or kept it under control - and as many of you have pointed out, I should have let Mr Ring speak.

You're right. I should have. He was our guest.

I have phoned Mr Ring to personally apologise.

I repeat that apology to him now and I want to extend it to everyone watching who was offended by my treatment of Mr Ring.

I am sincerely sorry.

We did invite Mr Ring back onto the programme tonight, promising him a far fairer hearing.

He declined.

An honest apology has 3 parts John. 1. I'm sorry, 2. It's my fualt 3. How can I make it right. Your apology did not do this, instead you used this weak apology as a further oppurtunity to push your own point of view. Your are not the news, you are the messenger. Go watch some real reporters who actually report the news, allow guests to speak, dont constantly cut people off. Whilst I don't agree with Ken I would have liked to see you learn something from all this...unfortunately it seems not

I love John C - we should make him our el'Presidente for life ruling from the ChCh whingers caravan providing free milk to the people. His continual focus on losers make them believe he is right and they don't take any action to pull them selves up by their own boot-straps. Keep up the good work JC

Hi John Looks like Ken was correct with his prediction for April - Is there going to be an acknowledgement that just maybe there is a correlation between celestial bodies and seismic activity and that maybe just because Ken doesnt have tertiary qualifications it does not exclude him from being well versed in the subject and having studied it with a passion he may just have gleaned a little more insight than some of your more "learned" friends?? Campbell disgusted me with his unprofessional behaviour to Ken Ring and this has led to attacks on Ken Ring and his family - I have seen John Campbell do this before to Helen Clark. If one takes the time to read Ken Rings advice it would become clear that his goal is of integrity. Campbell your ego overwhelms you and I have no respect for you.

A shame you can't get Ken back on to record his predictions so that he can be totally debunked! It amazes me how people will grab at straws to support their beliefs. I suppose if you make enough vague predictions....one is bound to come sort of true...... Tui Billboard Idea: Ken Ring - now thats true science at work! Yeah Right!!!!

I have been a fan of John Campbell for a decade and have always admired him. I've grown up watching him on my tv. However, the interview with Ken Ring disappointed me so much that I felt I wanted to write something about it. I would be the first to say that it's not right for Ken Ring to share such 'extreme' opinions with the world, but the way John Campbell acted was really unprofessional and disrespectful and I have, unfortunately, lost a lot of respect for John. As for Ken Ring, he is not a criminal, stop bullying him. He justs need to keep his opinions out of public knowledge. Terry

Well, good on you for apologising John, it takes guts to admit when you are wrong. I hope Ken had the grace to accept and everyone can move on.

John, you should not be apologizing. Ken should be apologizing to the whole of Christchurch for scaring already traumatized people with his incorrect forecast of a massive earthquake on 20 March that never happened. I don't care how many aftershocks there were, they happen every day! He scared many people into leaving the city for that day for nothing. So I think, good on you john, and I think get this idiot up on national t.v. to apologize!!!
