Comedian Rhys Darby may have been hosting Man vs Wild star Bear Grylls’ live show in Auckland last night, but it was Prime Minister John Key who received laughs from the audience as he appeared on stage.

“You owe me, by the way,” he said to Darby, before taking part in Grylls’ demonstration of his signature survival tip – eating live insects.

After eating his first, to great applause, Mr Key then put out his hand for more.

“One for the Prime Minister, why not?” said Grylls.

As he was leaving the stage, Mr Key almost bumped into the star of the show, and narrowly avoided a repeat of his “awkward handshake” moment at the Rugby World Cup.

Our Prime Minister is nothing more than a media bore and the media play up to him. Like Kim has written - who cares. Key has stated that Dotcom uses the media to his benefit. Glass houses John. Nice comment Richard....

Ole John should eat a few bugs after a 1080 poison drop. They're dropping the stuff in our back yard and water catchment area so it must be good for you. Watch the madness at http://youtu.be/FIZk8irj6aM
