Prime Minister John Key will visit Australia this week

Prime Minister John Key will meet representatives from the four major Australian banks when he visits Sydney and Melbourne this week.

Mr Key leaves on Thursday and says he wants to talk to them about latest global economic developments and their impact on the New Zealand and Australian economies.

The Australian big four own the main banks in New Zealand and Mr Key will be asking them how they see the future on issues like interest rates.

During his visit Mr Key will address the Trans-Tasman Business Circle and deliver this year's John Howard lecture in Sydney.

The lecture is an annual event established by the Menzies Research Centre in 2009 as a way of honouring former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, who held office from 1996 to 2007.

Mr Key's visit ends on Friday afternoon.
