It's been revealed the parents of murdered child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey were to be charged over her death in 1996.

An American newspaper has published details of a secret jury verdict handed down 13 years ago, but it was never acted upon

The six-year-old child beauty pageant star was found murdered in her home hours after she was reported missing in 1996. The investigation into her death dropped abruptly.

Now a new report says the grand jury at the time was ready to decide that both parents

 should face charges.

She was found dead in the basement of her family's upscale Boulder Colorado home.

Suspicion fell on her parents John and Patsy but they insisted an intruder was to blame.

But now an ABC News source confirmed that in 1999 a grand jury, after meeting for over a year, believed there was enough evidence to indict John and Patsy Ramsey on charges of child abuse resulting in death.
