A stressed and sleepless Lolo Jones says she was close to shaving her head after missing out on a medal at the London Olympics.
The American hurdler finished fourth in the 100m final on Wednesday morning behind Australia's golden girl Sally Pearson, defending champion Dawn Harper and countrywoman Kellie Wells.
"Stressed.5am no sleep post race. Almost went @britneyspears on ya & shave my head til I read ur tweets" Jones posted about eight hours after her run.
Earlier, the 30-year-old said she had been left broken-hearted and turned to prayer for support.
"In room Singing Desert song by Hillsong. Its on repeat. Lord Jesus please comfort me , guide me & heal my broken heart.
"...Also want to Thank u Lord for technically giving me the best seat in the stadium to watch the 100mh (sic) final. Congrats Sally, Dawn & kellie".
Critics were quick to attack Jones on Twitter soon after her performance, with some labelling her "overhyped" and the Anna Kournikova of athletics.
But publicity is not a new phenomenon for the American.
Jones has earned the backing of seven big-name sponsors since her appearance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when she fell from the lead to seventh place in the 100m final after stumbling over the second-last hurdle.
She more recently made headlines after using Twitter to reveal she was a virgin.
