Cyclist Julian Dean, who missed selection for the London Olympics after he broke a leg, has been picked to ride in the road world championships in the Netherlands.
Dean will join Hayden Roulston and Jack Bauer as New Zealand's representatives in the road race.
The announcement comes at the conclusion of the three-week Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain).
Fellow professionals Jesse Sergent and Sam Bewley will compete in the individual time trial at the championships at Limburg next week.
BikeNZ road manager Andy Reid says the number of top riders available for selection is unprecedented for New Zealand.
He says Dean, who broke a leg during the Tour of Catalunya in March, is back to some of his best form.
Roulston was also looking good in the Vuelta until he crashed, while Bauer has been preparing specifically for the upcoming race.
Reid says the selectors wanted to choose on form, but also cover different scenarios.
"We have Julian, should it be decided in a sprint, and Hayden with his speed and ability to get over the lumps, while Jack can cover the break and has the strength to be there at the end," he said.
Sergent is first backup for the road race and George Bennett is second reserve.
The women's team is headed by Linda Villumsen, who was fourth in the London Olympic time trial and will be chasing her fourth straight medal in the discipline at the world championships.
Both Villumsen (Orica-AIS) and Bewley (Orica-GreenEdge) have also been named in their professional teams for the team time trial.
