The Kahui twins inquest has heard how the three-month-old boys may have suffered several episodes of violent abuse before they died.
The twins were admitted to hospital with fatal head injuries, but also had multiple rib fractures that were at least two weeks old at the time of death. One of the boys also had a broken leg.
An international panel of four medical experts agreed that the babies also showed signs of dehydration and hadn’t been fed for more than 12 hours when they were taken to hospital.
The babies’ father Chris Kahui was acquitted of their murders in 2008.
Their mother, Macsyna King has written a tell-all book on the incident, which is set to be released after the inquest.
3 News reporter Emma Brannam has been following the inquest, and spoke to Firstline this morning about the testimony from medical experts and what Coroner Garry Evans will be hoping to achieve.
"It's his job to try and establish why the babies died and come up with recommendations to stop it happening again," she says.
