Kaiapoi residents to move on

They were among the first to be affected, but almost the last to be given any answers about their future.

Today Kaiapoi and Pines Beach residents have finally learned that their land has been written off by the government following the first devastating earthquake in September.

For many the uncertainty has been worse than the physical damage the earthquake and its thousands of aftershocks caused. But those 940 households were today told they too will be offered a payout from the government, as with those living in parts of Christchurch city.

Campbell Live spoke to Kaiapoi resident Peter Jenkins about the decision that will finally allow him to move on.

If a house is in the red zone how can the insurance company get a building permit to fix it up , that should make them have to pay out the replacement cover if no permit is issused
