BTW Congrats to TV3 for correct pronunciation of Whanganui (soft Wh). In contrast to National Radio where they say FONganui every time.

Actually Mr Warriner is absolutely right.

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori position is that the correct spelling of kapiti, as a word, is WITHOUT a macron on the ‘a’. This position has been established as a result of research.

The action of the council shows that incorporating what can best be described as PC hogwash is dangerous. Reading the comments on this post show that the radicals out there are now convinced that there has always been a macron and not to include it will be pillaging their heritage.

If Kapiti (correct spelling) council want to focus on a plan, maybe they should look at the hash they have made of Kapiti (correct spelling) Road; it looks like a patch work quilt. Evidence of botch up repairs and lack of forward consultation.

What a small minded little man. As a Kapiti resident and rate payer im pleased KCDC applied common sense. No need to waste money on consulting on a damn macron - nor are businesses likely to bear any additional cost. Trite and inane views like this I have no patience for.
